AC Breakdown and Repair Service

Air conditioning breakdowns are a nightmare at any time of year, but with our rapid response air conditioning breakdown service, you don’t have to live without your a/c for long.

Cross Air Conditioning’s team of experienced and fully qualified air conditioning engineers can diagnose the cause of your a/c breakdown, quote for any repairs and carry out the work to get your air conditioning back up and running as soon as possible.

We have a call out fee which covers the travel to your site and the first 1 hours labour, We aim to diagnose the problems with in the first hour if possible. If we take longer than this our standard hours rate will apply.

We have engineers ready to respond to customers across South Manchester, Stockport and Cheshire, so give us a call if your air conditioning is broken or if you’re seeing a fault code on your unit’s digital display.

Types of Air Conditioning Faults

There are many reasons why air conditioning fails. Some common examples include:

Dirty Air Filters
Filters clean the air passing through your air conditioning unit. When the filter is dirty, the air flow reduces. Efficiency drops and dust can escape into the inner workings of your air conditioning. Over time, this increases wear and tear, making a breakdown more likely.
Dirty Coils
Air conditioning coils heat and cool the air passing through the unit. Dirt build-up on the coils can reduce the air flow resulting in for performance. When the happens the evaporator coil is at risk of icing up, eventually leaking water and ultimately stopping the system working. Either way, your air conditioning unit will be under much more strain.
Dirty Fans
Dirty fans are a problem for a different reason. A thick build-up of dirt on the fans that blow hot and cold air out of the unit can make the fan blades heavier and again reducing air flow. This also increases the strain on the motor, which can burn out under the extra pressure.
Refrigerant Leaks
Unless you have a leak, you should never need to ‘recharge’ your a/c system. But if refrigerant leaks from your system, performance and efficiency will drop. Ultimately, the air conditioner could break down completely resulting in a costly repair.
Wear and Tear

If you use your air conditioning constantly and set it to a significant difference from the natural ambient air temperature, it will suffer from more wear and tear. Components do eventually wear out, so consider getting your a/c serviced more often if you know you use it a lot.

Don’t wait for an error code to appear. If your air conditioning isn’t working as you’d expect, if its performance has dropped suddenly, or if it’s making any unusual noises or smells, give us a call and we can help work out what’s gone wrong.

Are Air Conditioning Repairs Expensive?

The cost of air conditioning repairs depends on how serious the problem is. We will get your aircon back up and running as quickly as we can, Sometimes this may be a simple fix which we can do as part of the call out cost which does not require any parts.

More extensive repairs might take a little longer and could require spare parts or refrigerant. We can give you a quote upfront for how much this is likely to cost and how soon we think your a/c will be working again.

It’s usually sensible to get any errors fixed as soon as possible, rather than running your air conditioning with a fault, as this can damage the unit and result in more costly repairs later.

Why You Should Schedule AC Maintenance

Scheduled air conditioning maintenance gives our engineers a chance to spot any faults before they cause a breakdown, for example dirty filters and evaporator coils, low refrigerant levels and other minor errors.

With regular air conditioning servicing, there’s less chance of a serious fault or complete breakdown, and you’ll save money on operating costs as your a/c will be more efficient over the long term too.

You can’t always avoid air conditioning breakdowns – that’s why we’re here to respond if your air conditioning fails – but regular servicing puts prevention ahead of cure.
